District 30 Celebrates Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

This May, the District 30 community joins together to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with activities and learning opportunities throughout our schools.  AAPI Heritage Month is an annual celebration that recognizes the historical and cultural achievements of those of Asian and Pacific Islander descent in the United States. The AAPI term includes cultures from the entire Asian continent—including East, Southeast, and South Asia—as well as the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.  Many of these countries are represented in our diverse District 30 family.  AAPI Heritage Month will take place from Sunday, May 1, to Tuesday, May 31

District classrooms will partake in different cultural activities, and our school libraries will feature stories and non-fiction works that spotlight and celebrate individuals and cultures. In addition, Maple School is utilizing Advisory periods as an opportunity to increase cultural awareness, examine equity challenges of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and highlight individuals’ important contributions.
