Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley's Weekly Update - January 2, 2021

Dear District 30 Family,

Happy New Year! We hope that you are having a great Winter Break! As we reflect on 2020, we are proud of all that we have accomplished together educating, remaining connected, and providing normalcy to our students in a year that has been anything but normal. We are grateful for your partnership and know that we will reach the other side of this global pandemic together. Thank you, and please read my Optimistic About 2021 Blog.

We will return for two weeks of remote learning on Monday, January 4, 2021. As you recall, Northbrook Schools took an adaptive pause due to rising and substantial spread rates, a recommendation from the Cook County Department of Public Health, and the holidays. We remain committed to resuming our in-person phased operations models that reflect 2021 placement decisions on Tuesday, January 19.

We have said from the beginning of this year’s journey that we were going to take reasonable risks to run in-person learning to the extent possible, permissible, and practical. We are all also aware that what is a reasonable risk for some is not acceptable for all. We maintain our commitment to every child and family within our care. Our students will continue to be at the center of every decision we make.

Here are a few notes as we continue this journey together:

Ruvna Resumes for In-Person Learners: On Monday, January 4, Ruvna will be mandatory for all students who will attend in-person beginning again on January 19. Our first line of defense for our in-person learning is the self-certification process. It includes having every member of a household quarantine if symptoms or a close contact to a positive case of COVID-19 has occurred. Our commitment to each other must remain at the highest level possible.

Hybrid A/B Schedule: The 2021 Hybrid A/B Schedule has been updated from January 4, 2021, through June 2, 2021. This calendar will be housed on the District’s Calendar Page.

Partner to Lower Positivity Rates - Be a Safety Ambassador

Thank you for helping us work together to control the spread of COVID-19. Although we have seen a few days of increasing metrics this week, there has been a downward trend in all local COVID-19 rates and Glenbrook hospitalizations continue to drop! Please continue to wear masks and socially distance when you gather with anyone outside of your household. This year, experts ask all of us to celebrate with our immediate families as we continue our progress through 2021. I join the plea of Glenbrook Hospital President, Mr. Jesse Hall. He asks all of us to pledge our help:

When we curb the rise in positive cases, that means we’re helping to keep our communities, families, and friends safe.

I am asking you, your family, and staff to consider becoming COVID Safety Ambassadors with this goal in mind. You can pledge to keep yourself and the ones you love safe from COVID by signing the COVID Safety Promise.

You can access the Safety Ambassador toolkit and pledge here:  https://www.northshore.org/covid-19-information-resources/covid-19-safety-toolkit/

We look forward to continuing to partner with you to make 2021 all that it can be in District 30!

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
