Student Council Induction Assembly Takes Place on October 15

Maple School's annual Student Council Induction Assembly took place on Friday, October 15 with Student Council Co-sponsors Lynn Reimer and Iris Zhang, Principal Samuel Kurtz, Assistant Principal Betty Holzkopf, Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley, District Support Technician Jeanie Moran, and Physical Education/Wellness teacher Jill Rathge.

"We're impressed with this year's Maple Student Council inductees! They did a fantastic job highlighting the six pillars of Character Counts and kicking off their service with class! Well done! Thank you to Ms. Reimer and Ms. Zhang for their support and leadership!" said Dr. Wegley.

2021 Student Council Members include the following individuals listed below, who presented speeches on the pillars of Character Counts and lit candles after taking an oath of office with Co-Sponsors Ms. Reimer and Ms. Zhang.

Assistant Social Chair (6th Grader) - Emma Karp - Caring Speech/Candle

Social Chair (7th Grader) - Dana Morgen - Respect Speech/Candle

Assistant Fund Chair (6th Grader) - Jackson (Jack Jack) Chen - Citizenship Speech/Candle

Fund Chair (8th Grader) - Hanning Zhu - Responsibility Speech/Candle

Secretary (8th Grader) - Helena Yang - Fairness Speech/Candle

Vice President (7th Grader) - Oscar Lee - Trustworthy Speech/Candle

President (8th Grader) - Arianna Park - Welcome and Leadership Speech/Candle

President Arianna Park gave a closing speech and welcomed her fellow officers and Student Council class representatives. She said she is looking forward to the Council's participation in some great fundraisers and other activities this year! She reminded everyone that the Student Council meeting time is 7:40 a.m.-8:25 a.m. on Thursdays.

A Student Council Induction Ceremony will be held on October 15 (no student assembly).

On September 28, Student Council Co-Sponsors Lynn Reimer and Iris Zhang announced, "Students have put up election posters on the walls outside the music rooms, the west gym, and on the monitor by the office! The kids worked hard on their speeches and sent a video of themselves presenting their speech to us!"

Student Council Consists of the Following Positions:

President: (8th Grade Office)

Vice President: (7th Grade Office)-Assumes the president’s duties if he/she cannot attend meeting(s).

Secretary: (8th Grade Office)

Fundraiser: (8th Grade Office)

Assistant Fund Chairperson: (6th Grade Office)

Social Chairperson: (7th Grade Office)

Assistant Social Chairperson: (6th Grade Office)

The Co-sponsors are combining the student's videos with an introduction from Principal Sam Kurtz, Assistant Principal Betty Holzkopf, and Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley, along with their closing remarks to create a virtual Student Council assembly for the school.

The student body will watch the election during the first period on Friday, October 1. Following the election, the students will cast their votes on a student council ballot sent to their iPads! Winners will be announced shortly thereafter! A private Student Council Induction Ceremony will be held on October 15.
