Wescott School first-graders are proud to present the song "Can't Go Back Now" from their grade level show, "My First Year,"  which was canceled due to the pandemic. Link to performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d47P4G14Go4&feature=youtu.be

Music teacher Quentin Coaxum has shared  "Can't Go Back Now", which was to be the first song in the show. He said that the kids even wrote some of the lyrics.

"Their show's songs were a collaboration between myself and the first-graders (I always came in with the music and each class would help write the lyrics during music class). Each song was meant to illustrate a different aspect of life as a first-grader at Wescott," explained Mr. Coaxum.

"The song 'Can't Go Back Now' is about how first-grade, in many ways, symbolizes a new era in the life of a child, and the beginning of a new level of growth and responsibility. Despite the uncertainty of this new era of life, the beauty is that the children experience it with an entire community, (their classmates and the Wescott staff and families) which gives them the courage to embrace it. And even though they 'Can't Go Back Now,' they get to make the journey together. Ironically, it's relevant to the times we're in now as an entire world. It was a favorite among many of the kids, so that's why I chose to make a video for this one," added Mr. Coaxum.
