Willowbrook's High Five Friday Flag Raising Literally Rocked

At Willowbrook School's weekly Friday Flag Raising ceremony, first there was law and order, then some school business, all of which was topped off with a heaping helping of rock and roll!

Principal Dr. Scott Carlson began by welcoming special guests to the assembly: Glenview Police Department representatives Deputy Chief Cathy Sostak, Commander Robert Francois, Sergeant Timothy Heiser, and Officers Joel Detloff and Joseph Ku.

They were there in honor of a High Five Friday and gave students high fives as they walked in and out of the assembly. Dr. Carlson thanked them for their presence and the constant support of the community.

He announced the winners of the Character Counts! video and poster contests. Out of 342 video entries and 59 video entries, three Willowbrook students were named winners. More information on Character Counts! and District 30 awards to come.

Dr. Carlson also acknowledged other Wildcat student accomplishments. Two sisters participated in the Midwest Chinese Language School Associations' Recitation Contest and placed first and second in their grade-level groups.

The assembly ended with Willowbrook's very first rock band, "The Rockin' Tamales" who made their debut with Queen's renowned song "We Will Rock You."

Music teacher Kurt Barker taught them the song in only eight after school sessions, and they performed like true rock stars!
