District 30 News Briefs: Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley's Latest Board of Education Meeting Update

Superintendent Dr. Brian K. Wegley's March 15 Board of Education Update

New Maple School Schedule - Beginning Fall 2019

On February 25, 2019, the District 225 Board of Education supported Glenbrook North High School’s request to change their schedule daily schedule from 7:40 a.m. - 2:55 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. beginning in the 2019-20 school year.

As a result, we have received guidance from Kimley Horn, our traffic consultant firm, and they recommended that we change our daily schedule as well. On March 15, The Board of Education approved adjusting Maple School's Daily Schedule to 8:35 a.m. - 3:35 p.m., beginning with the 2019-20 school year.

Early band drop off will also be five minutes later next year at Maple School. Elementary school/bus schedules will not be affected by Maple's time change.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the schools or administration offices. We want to keep everyone informed as we plan to navigate a new and exciting 2019-20 school year!

2019-2020 Staffing Plan

Currently, we project the need for 59 core sections among the three schools for the 2019-20 school year, which will likely require two additional teachers. Projections indicate that Wescott will increase from 20 to 21 sections, while Willowbrook will increase from 19 to 20 sections (21 sections including Early Childhood). Maple’s number of sections will not change. District 30 class-size standards will be maintained.

Student Fees

District 30’s mandatory and optional fees were approved. Click here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jGsIcmDIT0chgdCloR6Gjug0KCEvEkTjyEwvDnopzEk/edit?usp=sharing to learn more.

Intergovernmental Agreement for Food Service

Quest Food Management Services, Inc. recommended partnering with another school district to help drive District 30 towards a cost-neutral food service program. The Board approved a one-year intergovernmental agreement between District 30 and Diamond Lake School District 76.

District 76 is located in Mundelein, Illinois and has no cooking facilities/equipment. With the new Maple School facility opening this fall, District 30 looks forward to helping this school district offer better food to their students while generating a financial benefit back to our schools.

Superintendent’s Report

I reminded those in attendance that our District 30 Family Dinner will be held on May 3, and that the Lew Blond Run takes place on May 18.
