Thank you for your continued commitment, partnership, and support. Our last Board Meeting included the following relevant items:
Personnel & Staffing
The Board of Education approved Ms. Beth Mistretta as our Communications Coordinator, beginning her service on July 1, 2022. They also approved Ms. Martyna Truta as Maple’s School Psychology Intern for the 2022-23 School Year. Please welcome these individuals to the District 30 Family!
The Board also approved Mrs. Erin Janick as our K-8 Math Interventionist and Mrs. Rachel Pollera as our Student Services Coordinator for the 2022-23 School Year. Please share your congratulations with both of these individuals!
The Board also formally approved the retirements of Beth Preis and Mary Bekas at the end of this year and Betty Holzkopf’s retirement at the end of the 2022-23 School Year. We offer our congratulations to these individuals and look forward to completing their service with them.
The Board also approved two staff leaves.
Executive Search Firm Approved
After a thorough search, the Board unanimously approved BWP & Associates as the search firm that will seek a dynamic new Superintendent of Schools to assume responsibilities beginning on July 1, 2023. Located in Libertyville, their experienced and dedicated directors and consultants network with educational leaders, college, university, and business leaders throughout the country. In addition, many are active in state, regional, and national educational organizations. Board President Nancy Artz shared, “We look forward to working with this talented firm, which will begin setting up opportunities for input on a Superintendent Profile this spring to name Dr. Wegley’s successor by December of 2022.”
2022-23 Board Meeting Dates Approved
The Board of Education formally approved the 2022-23 Board Meeting Dates. Meetings will shift from the current 7:30 p.m. start time to 7:00 p.m., beginning at our July 14 Board Meeting.
Operations Update
The Board and I shared sincere appreciation for our staff’s commitment, students’ engagement, and parents’ partnership. We also emphasized how much we are looking forward to celebrating our committed staff during next week’s Teacher Appreciation Week!
The Board was briefed on changes to the Northfield Township COVID-19 Elementary School Local Public Health Dashboard to align with CDC and IDPH information after IDPH discontinued the Cook County & School Metrics and COVID-19 test positivity data. They also continued to celebrate our local high vaccination rates and that school operations remain strong, even with continued local COVID-19 cases.
Our parents and staff were thanked for taking reasonable precautions, including everyone engaged in our weekly SHIELD testing, and for remaining in touch with our nurses if COVID-19 symptoms emerge.
District Math Study Report
Representatives from the District #30 Math Study Committee, Kery Obradovich, Ashley Grosshuesch, Erin Janick, Molly Shanahan, and Megan Stevens enthusiastically presented an update to the Board of Education on our in-depth curriculum review process, our mathematics curriculum philosophy, and next steps; where we will be heading to evolve our comprehensive mathematics program in District 30 thoughtfully. Their presentation was outstanding!
2022 Summer Curriculum Report
Dr. Hirsch reviewed the meaningful summer curriculum projects this summer, including planning for our mathematics curricular updates, Maple’s Professional Learning Team planning, District Equity work, K-8 Social Studies, Social-Emotional Learning work with RULER, and updating our supervision and evaluation documents. Mrs. Artz highlighted the value of this summer work and thanked our teachers and administrators for their commitment to our systemic improvement.
Wescott School Report
Dr. Brown reviewed Wescott School’s successful school year. He celebrated the return of kindergarten to Wescott School and increased enrollment to 517 students, supported by our elementary capacity project. Dr. Brown highlighted the normalcy and connectivity thoughtfully generated by Wescott’s staff, the PTO, and students as we have returned to engaging, interactive learning this year while being as safe as possible. He also emphasized the focused efforts to realize the school theme “Wescott Together,” including kindness efforts and celebrations of our diversity that included celebrating our Lunar New Year, integrating books that reflect our many cultures, learning about bilingual and multilingual identity, positive affirmations exchanged from student to student, and efforts to show caring inside our school and across the world. Dr. Brown thanked the Board for their support and reflected his immense pride for Wescott School!
Board Reports
Mrs. Artz presented an update on TrueNorth’s last meeting, including projected budget and cost increases along with strategic planning information. Character Counts highlights included upcoming participation in Glenview’s 4th of July parade with appreciation to our Glenbrook High School partners for allowing us to use one of their flatbeds. Other upcoming events that were highlighted included:
- District 30’s Lew Blond Run on May 21
- The Glenview/Northbrook Youth Services May 14 Spring Gala
- The Family Service Center’s 2022 Fundraising Event on June 4
