March 17 Board Brief

March 17 Board Brief

Dear District 30 Family,

I hope this email finds you doing well, and we wish you a fantastic Spring Break! Board President Mrs. Artz started our meeting by recognizing the touching efforts across District 30 to support Ukraine refugees and then asked for a moment of silence.

Our last Board of Education Meeting also included the following relevant items:

Personnel

The Board officially accepted the resignations of six individuals, five at the end of the school year and one effective March 1. The Board approved FY23 personnel budgets for Educational Support Staff and Administrators, including extending Mr. Falk’s contract through 2026. They also approved the employment of Lynda Kruse as an instructional assistant at Maple School and approved Kathryn Compagno as Wescott’s first Elementary Assistant Principal, beginning service next fall. Please welcome these two individuals to the District 30 Family.

Operations Update

Dr. Wegley reviewed local COVID-19 metrics that have stabilized at around 70 cases per 100K in Cook County and 130 within Northfield Township. He also shared gratitude to our staff, students, and parents for helping with the shift away from a universal masking requirement.

The Board shared sincere appreciation for our staff’s commitment, students’ engagement, and parents’ partnership. They also celebrated the normalcy being generated in our schools by our staff.

Updated 2021-22 Opening of School Plan Ratified

On February 25, the Board ratified the shift away from the universal masking requirement, which went into effect on February 28, after the CDC changed COVID-19 guidance and transmission-level definitions, placing our area in Low Transmission. On that same date, the Sangamon County case was vacated, and Governor Pritzker shifted the end of universal masking in schools from March 5 to February 25. As a result, District 30 moved away from universal masking on Monday, February 28. The updated plan reflects that change, still requiring masking in health settings, but not in school or on school buses.

Student Photography Services Contract Approved

As part of the 2021-22 Community and Communications strategic plan, the administration has identified and secured a contract with a student photography company intended to meet the district’s service and performance expectations. The Board approved a new contract with Stuart-Rodgers Photography for the 2022-23 school year.

Illinois Energy Consortium Membership Approved

The Illinois Energy Consortium is a joint energy purchasing consortium designed to lower utility costs for Illinois school districts. The administration believes that working through this consortium will increase the district's buying power and create savings within the volatile energy market. The Board authorized membership in the Illinois Energy Consortium for natural gas and electricity supply.

2022-23 Student Fees Approved

District 30’s mandatory and optional fees were approved. The Board included a 25% reduction for the second and subsequent riders from one family to a given school. It was noted that District 30 continues to support nearly 80% of busing costs instead of our goal of splitting costs with families 50/50. Click here to learn more.

Board Reports

Mrs. Artz reviewed the latest TrueNorth meeting, including recognizing a District 30 student, usage level projections, strategic planning, and an MOU (memorandum of understanding) for teacher assistants. Mrs. Blonder shared pride in the caring and support across District 30 and our township for Ukraine refugees. She also celebrated that a District 30 student’s art will grace next year’s Hero Hustle T-Shirt and that Character Counts will participate in Glenview’s 4th of July parade. She noted three upcoming events that were highlighted in the Character Counts Meeting:

The next Board Meeting will be in Willowbrook’s library on April 14. All are welcome!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
