Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 Board of Education Earns Governance Recognition Honor
The Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 Board of Education has been recognized for its exceptional governance practices by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB). District 30 was one of 35 (out of 859) Illinois school districts to earn the School Board Governance Recognition for their effective governance behaviors and their commitment toward obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively govern the district.
District 30 Board of Education members include President Nancy Artz, Vice President Jeff Zuercher, Zivit Blonder, Keith Karchmar, Dan Levin, Ammar Rizki, and Dr. Stephanie Yohannan.
IASB’s School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges local boards of education that practice good governance behaviors as outlined by IASB's Foundational Principles of Effective Governance. The focus of Governance Recognition is on full board development and participation, rather than on individual members. Boards of education that meet the necessary requirements are recognized for the two-year honorary distinction.
“Our District 30 Board of Education is most deserving of this honor,” said Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley. “Our dedicated board members always present a positive and caring tone through their strong governance that always places what is best for our students at the center of their decision making. They focus on continuous improvement of our district and themselves through professional development activities that advance their governance knowledge.”
“The board remains engaged with our community on issues of importance, and they do an outstanding job of monitoring the district’s performance to ensure that we are meeting the goals that align with our mission/vision and goals that we refer to as our District 30 Echo,” said Dr. Wegley.
In bestowing this meaningful award, IASB noted how the District 30 Board of Education supports a dynamic strategic planning process driven by the annual scan of the environment to recognize strategic challenges to our five strategic objectives. These are prioritized and utilized to update our strategic plan every May for the following year. The highest priorities within our strategic plan become our Board Goals.
The School Board Governance Recognition program aims to showcase how good governance creates a positive impact for students, staff, and the entire district community. It provides an opportunity for districts to tell their story about programs and projects that are improving outcomes in their local school districts and offers board members a chance to highlight how continuous learning, both by individual board members and the full board team, results in improved governance for the board of education and positive outcomes for the district.
“Our board has shown its commitment to the district, and ultimately the students, by continually improving their leadership skills and knowledge. I’m proud of our board members for providing different views and perspectives, working respectfully, and ultimately supporting the decisions of the entire Board. We always make decisions based on what is best for our students’ intellectual and social-emotional growth,” shared Board President Nancy Artz.
She continued, “The major projects that have been accomplished in our district over the past six years – building a new middle school, adding new classrooms and learning spaces in our two elementary schools through our Elementary Capacity Project, developing Professional Learning Communities, and providing our students both safe in-person and remote learning opportunities during this unprecedented school year – could never have occurred without a firm hold on our Board’s primary purpose - to provide excellent and thoughtful governance for our school district.”

IASB is a voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated to strengthening public schools through local citizen control. Although not a part of state government, IASB is organized by member school boards as a private not-for-profit corporation under authority granted by Article 23 of The Illinois School Code.
