Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley's Weekly Update - April 9, 2021

Dear District 30 Family,

I hope that everyone had a great week. Thank you for your work with our nurses to handle our return to school after Spring Break and for your partnership as we complete this challenging year.

Area COVID-19 rates in Northfield Township and Region 10 rose again throughout the week, and hospitalizations at Glenbrook Hospital have remained elevated with COVID-19 cases. We still hope to return to a downward trend. Please continue to respect the risks this virus poses by wearing masks and social distancing when you gather with anyone outside your household who has not been vaccinated. Please also note the Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force’s website includes resources for vaccination efforts and individuals.

Included below are a few notes as we continue this journey together:

End-Of-Year Plans: Watch for end-of-the-year celebration dates at our schools that will include some special events for our fifth and eighth-grade students.

Looking Ahead to Next Year: As we look forward to next year, we anticipate mitigation strategies to continue with a return to more normal operations with Willowbrook PreK-5, Wescott K-5, and Maple 6-8. Continuing a remote option for “families of students who are at increased risk of severe illness” is currently expected from the Illinois State Board of Education, and plans to support families with this need are also underway. More information will be shared as we progress. Please be on the lookout for next school year’s registration at the end of April.

Board Meeting: Thank you to Dr. Carlson for his outstanding Willowbrook School Report and reflection on the inspiring teaching and learning throughout this year. Thank you also to our Time Study Committee and TEAM Read Summer Curriculum presenters, who shared the exceptional work they completed last summer and implemented this year. Please read more about the meeting in the April 8 Board Brief.

School Support: Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help through our teaching staff if and when the need arises. Remaining connected and accessing the many resources in our community is a strength.

I look forward to continuing our partnership as we care for our students and each other.

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley

Superintendent
