Mrs. Sallie Magruder

Welcome to Second Grade! My name is Sallie Magruder, and I would like to share with you a little bit about myself. I grew up in Wilmette, IL and attended the District 39 schools and New Trier High School. I received a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University and a Masters in Teaching with Special Ed Endorsement from National Louis University, both located in Evanston, IL. I taught four years at Wilmette Community Nursery School and two years at Greeley School in Winnetka, IL before coming to 871909. This will be my thirteenth year teaching at Wescott, four years in kindergarten, seven years in first grade, and now my second year in second grade.

My philosophy is one of respect towards children, parents, staff, administration, and foundation of education in the early years of learning. My classroom is based on a thematic, hands on, child directed approach, using best practice methods. The children learn in whole classroom, small group centers, and on a one to one basis. I provide an engaging and challenging curriculum, where children can discover the joy of learning as they construct knowledge and produce authentic work.
