Nutritionist Robin Goldberg Addresses the Picky Eater Virtually at District 30 Elementary Schools

On February 25, Wescott and Willowbrook School PTO's hosted an upbeat and informative virtual presentation on Nutrition for Kids, especially picky eaters, with Nutritionist Robin Goldberg. @RobinGoldbergNutrition  https://www.robingoldbergnutrition.com

She is a certified Nutrition and Wellness consultant and cookbook author, who said she believes in balance and moderation when it comes to eating.

“Learning what your body needs and understanding how it affects each of us and then how to use that knowledge to make the right choices is important,” she emphasized.

Her programs are about creating educated changes that are sustainable and long-lasting. Changes should fit within a person’s lifestyle so that he/she can continue for the long term.

"You don’t need to eat less, you just need to eat right," she maintains.

She added, “I love food, and I don’t believe in diets or cutting things out, unless medically diagnosed."

Besides offering excellent basic nutritional advice Goldberg addressed the picky eater. Advice included the following,

  • Avoid food bribes or punishments, especially bribing or rewarding with treats. You can, however, offer positive reinforcement for trying something new especially after refusing many times.  For example, “I am so proud of you for trying that broccoli!”
  • It is the parent’s responsibility to provide food, and the child’s decision to eat it. Pressuring your child to eat, or punishing them if they don’t, can make them actively dislike foods he/she may otherwise like!
