We look forward to ending the year as we plan for next year. Thank you for everyone’s commitment and hard work in keeping our students at the center of everything we do!

Recognitions
The Board celebrated the success of our coaches and students in:
- Our Argonne National Laboratory Science Contest
- Maple’s Math Competition Team
- The Conference Champion 8th-Grade Volleyball Team Conference Champions
The Board also recognized and thanked our PTO Co-Presidents for their outstanding leadership and partnership throughout the year!
Personnel & Staffing
The Board also formally approved the retirement of Mrs. Sheila Kaufman at the end of this year. We offer our congratulations to her! They also approved the retirements of four other teachers at the end of the 2025-26 school year. I know we all congratulate these individuals!
The Board also approved one leave of absence.
School Operations Update
Elevated COVID-19 rates in our area continued and were highlighted. The Board and I shared sincere appreciation for our staff’s commitment, students’ engagement, and parents’ partnership. We continue to prioritize normalcy while operating as safely as possible and shared several recent examples of our students having a great year!
Continued COVID-19 cases were also shared. It was also noted that local health departments had signaled the possibility of several local counties, including Cook County, transitioning to the “high transmission” COVID-19 range in the coming weeks. We have continued to operate with everyone’s partnership and will continue to do so if that transition occurs. One shift that could happen is aligning with health recommendations that temporarily renew recommended indoor masking regardless of vaccination status.
The Board was briefed on year-end event plans at all of our schools, including a reminder that the final day of school on June 14 includes:
- Maple wrapping up at 9:35 a.m.
- Wescott and Willowbrook concluding celebrations at 10:00 a.m.
- Teachers complete paperwork, move rooms, etc.
2022-23 District 30 Strategic Plan & Focus on Strengthening a Sense of Belonging
The Board reviewed and provided input into our draft 2022-23 Strategic Plan. Diversity continues to be District 30’s greatest asset. The administrative team highlighted how we have and will continue to advance our age-appropriate and educationally-focused Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity efforts. The Board came to a consensus to evolve our Board Goals to include one focused on strengthening our sense of belonging through diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts that foster positive and inclusive climates across District 30. The other will focus on enhancing emotional intelligence skills across District 30.
Maple School Report
Mr. Kurtz celebrated Maple School’s outstanding year. He emphasized his pride in the normalcy provided by our staff for our students, the investment in our extracurricular programs, the transformation of our library, and the giving spirit of Maple School. Built on all that defines Maple School is the collaborative community where every stakeholder is valued, which was the basis for this year’s Blue Ribbon Award! Mr. Kurtz also highlighted student voices who unanimously echoed their appreciation and recognition that this has been a great year! The Board thanked Mr. Kurtz and Maple’s staff for their tremendous efforts throughout the year!
Board Reports
Mrs. Artz presented an update on NSSED’s last meeting, including campus program consolidation efforts and significant increases in our costs within their budget. Mrs. Blonder highlighted that all local organizations are navigating the rise in COVID-19 cases as they enjoy year-end celebrations. She highlighted the upcoming library summer reading programs and Other upcoming events that included:
