Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley's Weekly Update - May 20, 2022

Dear District 30 Family,

Thank you for your continued support. The last couple of weeks included 8th-Grade Springfield & Chicago Trips, our President’s Award for Educational Excellence, music concerts, an outdoor movie night, and many other meaningful events for our students. We continue to enjoy a great school year!

Included below are a few notes as we continue on this journey:

Continued Partnership: COVID-19 cases continue to occur in our area, as reflected in our Northfield Township COVID-19 Elementary School Local Public Health Dashboard. This week, Region 10 (Suburban Cook County) rose to 418 cases per 100k residents. Student and staff COVID-19 cases are shown on the District 30 COVID-19 Case Dashboard.

Thank you for taking reasonable precautions, including roughly 86% of our students who continue to engage in our weekly SHIELD testing, and for remaining in touch with our nurses when COVID-19 symptoms emerge. Your partnership continues to keep our schools operating well. Thank you!

End-of-the-Year Events & June 14: We look forward to the many end-of-the-year events planned, including the 7th-Grade Springfield Trip, Elementary Field Days, 5th-Grade Camp Duncan, the 8th-Grade Graduation, and more!

As a reminder, on June 14, Maple will wrap up the day at 9:35 a.m., while Wescott and Willowbrook end at 10:00 a.m. after their year-end celebrations. The remainder of the day includes our staff packing up their rooms and completing required year-end activities.

May 19 Board Brief: Diversity continues to be District 30’s greatest asset! Our Board Meeting included a presentation on our updated strategic plan that incorporates increasing a sense of belonging for all students by systemically advancing our educationally-focused Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity planning. On-Going School and Community Support: As the inevitable challenges of life hit, we recognize that reaching out for help is a strength. Thank you to our Student Services Team and local organizations that partner with our families to support us! Thank you to CATCH for including Maple’s Blake Zweig, GBN’s Mr. Justin Georgacakis, and me in their "Parenting the Mental Health Generation - Talk About It" episode.

Enjoy your weekend and the return of spring to our area!

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
