Maple School's Student Council Donates Holiday Gifts to Youth Services of Glenview and Northbrook

Student Council's 2021 Toy Drive collection at Maple School. Maple will continue to collect any additional donated gifts until December 17. Thank you to our generous community!

On December 9, Maple School’s Learning Stairs were stacked with hundreds of holiday gifts that had been collected by Student Council members. For over 27 years, the Student Council's largest initiative of the year has been the annual holiday toy drive. It still is. The mountain of toys, books, games, and more was donated to Youth Services of Glenview and Northbrook.

"Thank you so much to Maple School and the Student Council with Co-sponsors Lynn Reimer and Iris Zhang! The Youth Services Holiday Gift program serves more than 630 local children to ensure their holiday wishes and winter essentials are provided. We do this with donor and community support. We so appreciate the generosity of the whole District 30 community," said Youth Services team member Lisa Hanneman.

The Youth Services team of five individuals helped students, teachers, and administrators carry and load the gifts into their cars for transport. They included Lisa Hanneman, Amy O’Leary, Michelle Brody, Erin Miller, and Jennifer Fitch.

Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley, Maple School Principal Samuel Kurtz, and Assistant Principal Betty Holzkopf also worked with the students packing the toys into six cars. The kids were thanked for their dedication to this important activity, and for demonstrating kindness and citizenship.

Student Council members include President Arianna Park, Vice President Oscar Lee, Secretary Helena Yang, Fund Chair, Hannah Zhu, Assistant Fund Chair, Jackson Chen, Social Chair Dana Morgan, and Assistant Social Chair, Emma Karp.

Maple will continue to collect any additional donated gifts until December 17. Maple students receive(d) five raffle tickets for every dollar spent buying toys. Raffle winners will be drawn on Wednesday, December 15, at the Student Council meeting.
