Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley's Weekly Update - January 22, 2021

Dear District 30 Family,

It was exciting to resume our in-person phased operations models as we continue to invest in our full-remote instruction. We know that we will reach the other side of this global pandemic together. We continue to appreciate our teachers’ commitment, the engagement of our students, and our parents’ support.

Here are a few notes as we continue this journey together:

District 30 Summer School: District 30 is excited to resume summer school from June 15 through July 16. In-person planning includes running classes in pods of around 12-15 students who will have access to 1, 2, 3, or 4 periods bundled to represent our most popular classes over the recent years. In addition, there will be a few online courses offered, including babysitting, band, and coding. Official registration will begin for in-district families on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. One week later, there will be another registration for the courses being offered online.

Post Spring Break Plans: Spring Break will run from Monday, March 22 through Friday, March 26. Unless there is a dramatic shift in local metrics or health guidance, we do not anticipate an Adaptive Pause after Spring Break. District 30 will resume phased operations on Monday, March 29. Quarantine requirements in Cook County will continue to evolve as rates change throughout Illinois and in other states and countries. Students who travel to areas that remain on the Cook County Department of Public Health’s high-incidence travel locations on March 29 must complete the 14-day quarantine before returning for in-person learning.

Snow Days & Presidents’ Day on Monday, February 15: As we resume school, we remain in the middle of a Chicago Winter. In the case of a major snowstorm or extremely cold day, school buildings will be closed. If a weather-related school building closure occurs, we will utilize an eLearning day instead of canceling school. We don't anticipate using our Emergency Days to make up missed school days as we have in the past. Therefore, our designated Emergency "Snow" Day on February 15 will be a non-attendance day.

Board Meeting: Our last Board Meeting was last night. Please read more about the meeting in the January 21 Board Brief.

Support: Please don’t hesitate to reach out for help through your teachers if and when the need arises. Remaining connected and accessing the many resources in our community is a strength.

Partner to Lower Positivity Rates - Be a Safety Ambassador

Thank you for helping us work together to control the spread of COVID-19. We have continued our downward trend in all local COVID-19 rates as Glenbrook hospitalizations continue to drop. We hope to continue this trend. Please continue to respect the risk this virus continues to pose by wearing masks and social distance when you gather with anyone outside your household. I join the plea of Glenbrook Hospital President, Mr. Jesse Hall. He asks all of us to pledge our help:

When we curb the rise in positive cases, that means we’re helping to keep our communities, families, and friends safe.

I am asking you, your family, and staff to consider becoming COVID Safety Ambassadors with this goal in mind. You can pledge to keep yourself and the ones you love safe from COVID by signing the COVID Safety Promise.

You can access the Safety Ambassador toolkit and pledge here:  https://www.northshore.org/covid-19-information-resources/covid-19-safety-toolkit/

Have a great weekend!

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
