Superintendent Dr. Brian K. Wegley's Weekly Update - December 11, 2020

Dear District 30 Family,

Thank you for your continuous support as we navigate this COVID-19 global pandemic together. We had another great week across District 30. Thank you to our teachers for their continued commitment, to our students, for their perseverance and flexibility as they maintain engagement, and to our parents for your partnership. We remain grateful.

Here are a few important notes as we continue this journey together:

Re-Registration Update: A total of 45 students have requested to move from full-remote to our in-person models, with 22 students requesting to move from our in-person to our full-remote option for the 2021 portion of this school year. The following decisions have been made:

Due to move-ins throughout the year, one additional full-remote fifth-grade section will be introduced, allowing us to run two 4th-grade and two 5th-grade remote sections beginning after our adaptive pause.

Regarding in-person sections:

All safety protocols will remain in place.

We will continue the same number of in-person sections with the same model. Our K-3 classrooms will continue to be full-time in-person sections, and our hybrid model will remain in place for grades 4 through 8.

Although a significant amount of consistency will occur, there will be a few changes to our K-5 student rosters. Parents changing models after our adaptive pause received notifications regarding new placements by today.

Hybrid A/B Schedule: The 2021 Hybrid A/B Schedule has been updated from January 4, 2021, through June 2, 2021. This calendar will be housed on the District’s Calendar Page.

Pride and Support - Please Remain Connected: We continue to be incredibly proud of our students for their perseverance and flexibility as they remain engaged throughout this year and during the adaptive pause. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for support through your teachers if and when the need arises.

Join Us for Next Friday’s Winter Sing: The winter sings that occur in our schools are highlights of the year. Please join us for our virtual versions of these inspiring events, which will include the entire District 30 Family and be coordinated by our talented music teachers! Look for more information from our schools.

Partner to Lower Positivity Rates - Be a Safety Ambassador

We can and must do our part to control the spread of COVID-19. Hospitalizations continue to rise at Glenbrook Hospital. Please continue to wear masks and socially distance when you gather with anyone outside of your household. This year, experts ask all of us to celebrate with our immediate families as we continue our progress through the holidays. I join the plea of Glenbrook Hospital President, Mr. Jesse Hall. He asks all of us to pledge our help:

When we curb the rise in positive cases, that means we’re helping to keep our communities, families, and friends safe.

I am asking you, your family, and staff to consider becoming COVID Safety Ambassadors with this goal in mind. You can pledge to keep yourself and the ones you love safe from COVID by signing the COVID Safety Promise.

You can access the Safety Ambassador toolkit and pledge here:  https://www.northshore.org/covid-19-information-resources/covid-19-safety-toolkit/

As we head into the last week of school in District 30 in 2020, I wish everyone a safe and meaningful Holiday Season and a healthy and increasingly better 2021!

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
