Math Navigate placement decisions are based on achievement on standardized assessments. Placement is data-driven, and every child is considered every year. A matrix is used to inform all math placement decisions, and matrix criteria are reviewed and refined annually by the elementary Navigate teachers, principals, and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. The following data points are used within the matrices:

• Measure of Academic Progress—test administered in both fall and spring
• Cognitive Abilities Test (Quantitative)—test administered winter of 3rd and 5th grades
• Non-Routine Problem Solving Tasks

Initial placements are reviewed, and final placement decisions are made upon administrative approval. The following chart outlines the criteria for placement.

Navigate Placement Requirements

English Language Arts (ELA) placement decisions are based on achievement on standardized assessments, and every child is considered every year. The placement process is data driven and informed by achievement over time. Since this is a complex-data based decision, a matrix is used to inform all ELA Navigate placement. If inconsistencies within data trends are noted, teachers are consulted regarding the test scores.

Matrix criteria are reviewed and refined annually by the elementary Navigate teachers, principals, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. The following chart outlines the criteria for placement.
