English Language Arts: This year marks the second year of implementation for our English Language Arts instructional resources: HMH's Into Reading (grades K–5) and Heggerty's Bridge to Reading (grades K–2). Into Reading is a comprehensive literacy program aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan. Through engaging, high-quality texts written by diverse authors, the program supports all aspects of literacy while providing opportunities for differentiated instruction and ongoing assessment to monitor student progress.

For our youngest learners, Bridge to Reading focuses on building strong foundational literacy skills, including print concepts, phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency. Aligned with Illinois Learning Standards and research-based instructional practices, the program offers interactive, hands-on learning experiences that meet the needs of all students.

At the middle school level, literacy instruction continues through our Literacy Studio model, which integrates reading and writing in meaningful and individualized ways. As students engage with increasingly complex texts and learning experiences, they strengthen their communication, comprehension, critical thinking, and written expression. Across all grade levels, District 30 remains committed to providing differentiated instruction that supports every learner and recognizes that strong language skills are essential for academic success, effective communication, future career opportunities, and lifelong learning.

Mathematics: Our mathematics curriculum continues to align with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Students in kindergarten use Bridges, grades 1–5 use Math in Focus, and grades 6–8 use Big Ideas Math. These programs emphasize rigorous instruction, deeper conceptual understanding, and mastery of essential mathematical concepts. Rather than covering many topics superficially, students spend more time developing a thorough understanding of key concepts and using mathematical models to build problem-solving skills.

Assessment: The District 30 assessment system is based on a variety of assessments including classroom assessments, formal assessments, and state-mandated tests. Together, the results from these tests provide us with valuable information that assists us in making data based decisions about each student’s educational program. These assessments help us differentiate for children, maximize the learning potential for all students, and create engaging, enriching learning experiences for all.

Social and Emotional Learning: The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priorities. As part of this commitment, District 30 continues to invest in social-emotional learning across all grade levels. Students and staff will continue implementing RULER, the systemic social-emotional learning approach developed by the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Elementary students will also participate in Wayfinder lessons that develop important academic, personal, and life skills. At the middle school, students will engage in Wayfinder during the Mustang Resource Period. Together, these programs help students build self-awareness, strengthen relationships, make responsible decisions, and contribute positively to their school and community.

Throughout the year, we will continue working toward our strategic goals of helping every student reach their full academic potential while fostering a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where everyone feels they belong. We value the many perspectives and experiences that enrich our schools and believe that equitable access, meaningful representation, and full participation create the strongest learning environment for all students. Preparing students to thrive as informed and compassionate global citizens requires that every member of our community feels respected and valued.
