I shared current enrollment numbers across District 30 with our Board of Education. We currently have 115 kindergarteners and students continue to enroll. Our defined sections continue to support enrollment.

Master Facility Plan Update

Mr. Falk briefly updated the Board on the progress of our summer projects, including:

  • The construction of the Maple project remains on schedule and within budget

  • Five rooftop units have been repurposed from the old Maple School to Wescott and Willowbrook in support of our Health and Life Safety needs

  • The transformer at Willowbrook School will be replaced on Tuesday, July 23

  • A new fence was installed along the south side of Wescott’s campus and parking lot repairs will be completed over the next few weeks

  • The District Office is preparing to move out of our temporary location at Northview Community Bank, to the top of the new Maple School by the end of July

Maple School Tours and Events

I shared that Community Tours for Maple will be on Thursday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 7 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. I also highlighted our excitement for the opening ceremony, Maple: Open for Learning that will occur on Tuesday, September 3 at 8:35 a.m.

Board Reports

Mr. Rizki summarized relevant items from the last Northbrook Economic Development Committee Meeting including:

  • The Village of Northbrook is planning a Downtown Land Use and Parking Study that includes defining the future of the Grainger Property (within District 30’s boundaries)

  • The Sterling Place on Techny Road that is within District 30’s boundaries has been approved, and the 84 unit housing development will break ground in October

  • Issues related to recent assessments were discussed. It was pointed out that increased assessments result in decreasing tax rates to maintain the cap on property tax collection that has been in place for years

  • The One Book, One Northbrook initiative for the village to read Trevor Noah’s Born in Crime was also shared

The Board and I also celebrated Eleni Lamson, Ashley Grosshuesch and everyone who put together another successful District 30 Summer School program that wrapped up at Willowbrook School on July 12! I also shared that our first institute day will be on Tuesday, August 27.

Kathy and I celebrated our 30th Anniversary at the end of June and have had some great family time! I hope that you and your loved ones are also enjoying quality time together.
