Wescott School Earns Second National Blue Ribbon Award

Dear District 30 Family,

It is with great pride that we share this exciting news!

Wescott School Earns Second National Blue Ribbon Award

This morning, the U.S. Department of Education honored Wescott School with the National Blue Ribbon Award for Exemplary High-Performing Schools! Out of more than 3,000 public elementary schools in Illinois, Wescott School was one of only 12 earning this distinction!

This is the third National Blue Ribbon Award for Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 and the second for Wescott, which earned this distinction in 2013. In 2021, Maple School was also honored with the district’s second National Blue Ribbon Award.

The Illinois State Board of Education nominated Wescott School for this distinguished award, and Principal Dr. Chris Brown partnered with his staff to complete the application process.

“The faculty and staff of Wescott School are immensely proud to receive the National Blue Ribbon School award from the United States Department of Education,” Dr. Brown said. “This award recognizes sustained academic excellence over the past four years. With all that our school and community have been through together over this time, we are grateful for this recognition. We look forward to celebrating with everyone over the next few months!”

The National Blue Ribbon School award acknowledges and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for—and attaining—exemplary achievement, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Schools that earn this distinction serve as models of effective school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation, and their staff members are often sought out as mentors.

Board President Mrs. Nancy Artz shared, “I congratulate Wescott School for earning the National Blue Ribbon Award. We are exceedingly proud of Wescott’s staff and students for the exemplary educational opportunities recognized with this esteemed award!”

Dr. Brown, along with additional Wescott and District 30 officials, will travel to Washington D.C. to accept this award in early November. The school will also host a celebration shortly after their return.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian K. Wegley remarked, “District 30 exists to create a community that craves learning, fosters resiliency, and cares deeply about each student. We are all honored to have Wescott School named a Blue Ribbon School for the second time!

“This esteemed award follows Maple's designation last year!” he added. “We are thrilled with this well-deserved recognition that reflects the educational excellence that permeates Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 from pre-K through eighth grade!”
