District 30 Family & Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force Update

Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley

Dear District 30 Family,

Our work continues to progress to prepare for this school year. Thank you to everyone who has reached out for additional information. We commit to providing regular updates and appreciate everyone’s understanding as we continue to seek knowledge that will help us move forward.

We all share responsibility for success. Please see the latest Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force communication that includes guidance from the Cook County Department of Public Health. The recommendation is to self-quarantine for 14 days after visiting a state with a high incidence of COVID infection for more than 24 hours. Therefore, if you plan to travel to a high-incidence state, please note that 14 days before our first day of school is August 5. (August 2 for staff members). The high-incidence list of states is updated each Tuesday at CCDPH Travel Guidance. Thank you all for your continued diligence, attention, and responsibility.

Thank you to all who have completed our Fall 2020-2021 Registration Confirmation process. We appreciate everyone deciding by this Monday, July 27. Of those who have chosen (representing about 60% of our students), about 85% are returning for in-person learning, while 15% are selecting the remote learning option. After the completion of Fall Registration Confirmation on Monday, July 27, we will finalize schedules and assignments.

For individuals who still need to complete the Fall 2020-2021 Registration Confirmation form in Parent Portal, follow the directions below. Please note that parents may also change their responses using the link below up through the end of the day on Monday, July 27.

We intend to support in-person and full-remote models of learning. Both models offer challenges, but our focus is to educate our students to the best of our ability during this ongoing pandemic.

In-person learning will include a Hybrid Model for grades 4-8. It will take time for us to build our capacity within this new model. This learning will be different as we prioritize health and safety by following social distancing and mask guidelines.

The full-remote learning option continues to take shape as the number of students opting for this model emerges. Current plans for our Remote Learning Option include:

PreK: Plans for students who choose the remote option will be developed with parents individually.

Grades K-5: An eLearning 2.0 teacher will be assigned to individual or multi-grade level classes across our district. There will be a structured schedule that closely mirrors current grade-level bell schedules. Where possible, specials will be embedded within the structured schedule. Time for core teachers to meet with students in small groups, individually and/or provide whole group instruction will be built into daily interaction.

Grades 6-8: Students will follow their Maple School schedule as closely as possible, working with an assigned teacher who will help support live instruction, according to their designated schedule with their in-person peers at Maple.

This model offers challenges for delivering all specials that will be delivered within the in-person model, but we have confidence that plans will serve students well.

We also continue to update our Parent Phased Operations FAQ. Please keep reaching out with questions and know that we will share regular updates.

Together, we will face challenges in the year ahead of us. We will learn and grow together as we provide education that looks different but exhibits the same care and commitment that defines us. In this unusual time, we will be our best when we continue to stand together. Our kids will follow our lead, and they will also demonstrate their resiliency. We are all in this together, and we will all get through this together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
