D30 Family 4/17 Weekly Update

D30 Family 4/17 Weekly Update

Dear District 30 Family,

I hope that you are all continuing to do well! In addition to touching base with the members of our family, this email is to share this week’s update from our Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force. Please note the school building closure announcement and the NorthShore University HealthSystem approved information for using masks and gloves. I continue to be thankful for the coordination and collaboration between our villages and leaders to help us navigate this situation.

We had a great week of learning in District 30. Thanks to our students for completing our second Global Learning Lesson (enjoy this summary video of our inspiring students’ efforts) while our teachers planned with their curricular teams and met with technology specialists to continue our evolution and planning for e-Learning. Special thanks to Glenbrook Hospital President, Mr. Jesse Hall, for sharing this video demonstrating our students’ kindness with NorthShore patients created by Mrs. Michele Pollina. I continue to be so proud to be a part of this community!

A few key reminders:

  • Today, Governor Pritzker announced that school buildings would remain closed in Illinois through the remainder of the 2019-2020 School Year. We have been planning for this possibility:
    • Decisions that have been made:
      • e-Learning will continue for the rest of the year with our next Planning Day and Global Learning Lesson on Monday, April 27
      • Spring MAP Testing will not occur; moving forward plans will include administering the assessment in the early fall to assist with our middle school schedules and elementary programming placements
      • The Lew Blond Run has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 12
      • Field trips have been canceled through the remainder of the year
    • Decisions that will be finalized and communicated next week:
      • The updated e-Learning calendar will be finalized and shared
      • Placement procedures for the 2020-21 School Year in light of the interruption of in-person instruction
      • Handling of refunds for bus fees, eighth-grade graduation fees, and before & after-school care
      • Altered Report Cards to reflect e-Learning engagement
    • Other issues for future consideration:
      • Plans to honor our fifth-grade and eighth-grade students with remote options for these and other recognition events and celebrations
      • Summer School is being evaluated and may be modified or canceled
      • A pickup schedule for teacher belongings, student materials, and iPad end-of-the-year drop-off
  • We continue to partner with our Parent Teacher Organizations on alternative methods of celebrating our special school community
  • Keep checking our Parent School Closure and e-Learning FAQ - We will keep it updated and will add answers to important questions that arise, as we all navigate our new, temporary normal
  • Due to the Governor’s Stay-At-Home order, Board Meetings will shift to Virtual Board Meetings beginning on Thursday, April 23

Thank you all for continuing to navigate our temporary normal. Our next phase of recovery is not yet in our focus but is starting to take shape. We will thoughtfully work together to analyze recommendations and negotiate each stage that leads to a return to normal. We are aware that it will be a long path, but I also know we are up for the challenge, and we will get there together!

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
Superintendent
