Health Update on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) - April 10

Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 continues to partner with village leaders and agencies to work together on and respond to the evolving COVID-19 situation. This communication is from our task force. Thank you for your continued partnership and support, and thank you for helping our youth honor the physical distancing expectations. Please note the NorthShore University HealthSystem advocacy for individuals who display coronavirus symptoms to reach out and be screened for testing. I continue to be inspired by all the care being shown by our community. Thank you! - Dr. Wegley

Members of the Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force continue to work together to protect the safety, health and well-being of the citizens we serve. We have regular conversations to understand our immediate situation, constantly monitor the state and federal mandates that impact us, and look ahead to consider the decisions we will face as individual organizations and a collective community as we move past the current restrictive environment.

In several past messages, we have shared prevention tips. In this message, we ask that you go right to the source: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers very clear advice on how to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Note that the CDC recently updated its recommendations to include wearing masks or other face protection whenever you are out in public. Here is CDC guidance on face coverings

Update From NorthShore University HealthSystem

NorthShore University HealthSystem reports that, as expected, the hospitals in the system are seeing a steady rise in COVID-19 testing and in confirmed cases. They are working with faith-based, service and civic organizations to reach out to community members to check in on their health and provide information on when and how to seek testing and care. Those who have symptoms should be screened for testing. The following are symptoms of COVID-19:

  • Loss or decrease in the sense of smell
  • Loss or decrease of the sense of taste
  • Fever (temperature of 100 or higher)
  • Cough
  • Congestion
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Flu-like body aches

If you or anyone in your household is experiencing even one of those symptoms, you are urged to be screened immediately to determine if you need testing. You can:

  • Call 847-HEALTH9 (847-432-5849) and talk to a NorthShore clinical expert; or
  • Log onto NorthShoreConnect through the app on your mobile device or on the website (www.northshoreconnect.org/immediatecare).

NorthShore reports that their supply of PPE is currently sufficient and staff members, who are trained in proper PPE use, feel protected. The hospitals continue to accept financial, critical supply and other donations. Visit their website for information.

Community Needs

The Northfield Township Food Pantry is seeing a rise in residents needing support. If you live in Northfield Township and need assistance with rent, food or other financial strains, contact the township office at 847-724-8300. Remember, the Food Pantry is accepting donations and volunteers age 16 and up to help them keep up with this increasing demand.

Stay Home, But Stay Connected

We strongly urge you to comply with Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker’s stay-at-home orders, but we hope that you’ll find ways to stay connected in the community. The Glenview Northbrook Coronavirus Response website includes links to resources to support your mental health, and it also links to all of our organizations. We all are here, virtually, to answer your questions, provide information and support, or to just say hello.
