I hope that you are all continuing to enjoy summer! Last night’s Board of Education meeting included the following relevant items:
Board Tour of Maple School
District 30’s Board of Education toured the new state-of-the-art Maple School, and we held our first meeting in the library. The Maple Campus project remains on time and within budget. With the support of the PTO, the additional playground project will be installed next summer.
I shared our sincere appreciation for all of the hands that have played a part in this updated community asset. Our Board, administrators, staff, and community played significant roles in this project. The Village of Northbrook, Northbrook’s Police and Fire Departments, District 225/Glenbrook North High School, La Salceda, and Wintrust’s Northview Community Bank have also been terrific partners throughout this project.
The Board and administrative team also shared our appreciation for our custodial staff and teachers who have moved into this new space. Their efforts will ensure that our first day of school will be productive in District 30!
The Board approved the hiring of Mindy Lamberti (3rd Grade) and Katie Keesbury (Reading Specialist) at Wescott, Nicole Angelbeck (Instructional Assistant) at Willowbrook, and Elizabeth (Libby) Kane (7th-Grade Science) and Sara Elliott (Instructional Assistant) at Maple. Please welcome them all to the District 30 Family.
The Board also approved Annette Teer as a 0.6 FTE English Language (EL) Teacher at Willowbrook.
The Board approved a tentative budget for public display at the District Office before final approval at its September 19, 2019 meeting. The budget follows our financial projections and continues our planned, controlled deficit budget utilizing $1M of our fund balance to support Health/Life-Safety needs as promised during our referendum.
Board Governance Review Next Steps
The Board recapped their Board Governance Review. Our Illinois Association of School Board consultant recognized our high-functioning Board of Education for their effective governance, strong strategic planning, and positive relationships. Our work resulted in the generation of three relevant goals for me this year:
Support the transition of Maple School and the District Office.
Identify and hire a new Maple School Principal.
Begin planning to solve our elementary enrollment/facility capacity issues.
My report included:
Reviewing current enrollment numbers across District 30. With a few weeks left before the start of the school year, our total enrollment includes 1168 students with 118 kindergarten students.
Sharing upcoming events, including New Teacher Orientation that begins on Monday, August 19, our first Teacher Institute Day on August 27, and our first day of school and opening ceremonies on September 3.
Inviting our community to tours for Maple on Thursday, August 29 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 7 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Thanking our 12-month staff for all of the work they have done throughout the summer to prepare for the upcoming year. We are almost ready and looking forward to a great school year!
Have an outstanding last few weeks of summer and know how much we all recognize and appreciate your efforts preparing for the year. Thank you!
