Willowbrook Third and Fourth-Graders Perform "Carnival of the Animals" on October 30
Willowbrook School third and fourth-graders' production of the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saens' "Carnival of the Animals" was a delightful combination of beautiful stories, music, and art, most of which was created by the children over the past month.
Music teacher Kurt Barker said that every piece had a specific animal theme:
Blackbird - Lennon & McCartney (with soloist fourth-grader Natalie Waldman)
Rattle Snake - Willowbrook third-graders (3B)
Crocodile - Ms. Steven's fourth-grade class
Elephant - Ms. Lund's fourth-grade class
Quetzal (Bird) - Ms. Shanahan's fourth-grade class
Whale - Willowbrook third-graders
"Swinging On a Star" - Jimmy Van Heusen & Johnny Burke
The drama parts were from the book "Squids Will Be Squids" by John Scieszka & Lane Smith. They also performed parts from the fables of "Duckbilled Platypus vs. Beefsnackstik," and "Gee I Wonder."
The dance was choreographed to Aquarium from Camille Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals.
Shout out to music teacher Kurt Barker for orchestrating such a beautiful show. Others who helped make the production a success were art teacher Kristin Sendaydiego, physical education teachers David Goss and Carrie Bargowski, and the grade level teachers: Marcy Cohen, Jessica Braiman, Katie Greenawalt, Jennifer Lund, and Molly Shanahan.
“I was amazed at the creativity demonstrated throughout Willowbrook's third and fourth-grade musical! Congratulations to our students and thank you to music teacher Mr. Barker and our whole team for this awesome show!” stated Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley.
