D30 Family 5/1 Weekly Update

D30 Family 5/1 Weekly Update

Dear District 30 Family,

I hope that you are all continuing to do well! In addition to touching base with the members of our family, this email is to share this week’s update from our Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task ForcePlease note the reflection on our incredible community as Northfield Township Food Pantry volunteer slots are filled through May. Financial assistance continues to be needed and welcomed! I continue to be thankful for the coordination and collaboration between our villages and leaders to help us navigate our current situation.

On the note of our fantastic community, continue to look for the inspiring stories that surround us. This week included examples of parents teaming with our staff to support our students through this complicated time. It also included one of our teacher’s children comparing unicorns with one of her students as they remain connected and worked together. Another included our Presidential Awards Ceremony that we celebrated virtually on Wednesday night. Maple alum Tim St. John’s created a video that provides levity and good advice for all of us during this time. Please enjoy his thoughtful message!

We had a great week of learning in District 30. Thank you for the outpouring of love for our teachers from our last Global Learning Lesson. We received over 1400 messages of gratitude, and you made us very proud! We look forward to brightening our educator’s days during Teacher Appreciation Week!

A few key reminders:

  • We continue to update our plans regarding how to best proceed educationally through the year:
    • Decisions that have been made:
      • Review a comprehensive list of decisions.
      • We will honor our fifth-grade and eighth-grade students with remote ceremonies that will be available for viewing on Monday, June 8. Details will follow.
    • Other issues for future consideration:
      • A pickup schedule for student materials and iPad/library book end-of-the-year drop-off.
      • Summer School that may be modified or canceled for this year.
    • Registration for next year begins today and runs through the end of May.
    • Friday, May 8, will be our next Global Learning Lesson that is being put together by our administrative team. Please encourage your students to exercise with Dr. Carter and share their pet talents. Also, have them begin thinking about how to capture our living history in their Time Capsule! Friday’s lesson will include ideas for the whole family!
    • Keep checking our Parent School Closure and e-Learning FAQ. We will keep it updated and will add answers to important questions that arise as we all navigate our new, temporary normal.

In a concerted effort to continue a sense of normalcy, our primary goal remains to maintain connections with our students. I am proud of the high levels of student engagement, as we work to move our students forward in a thoughtful manner. As challenging as this time is, there will be enduring benefits from our continued efforts. Thank you for your continued partnership and care, and we wish you a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
