District 30 Character Counts! Poster and Video Contest Winners Recognized at Village of Glenview Meeting

On November 21, nine District 30 students were recognized for their recent entries in the 24th annual Character Counts! poster and video contest, at the Village of Glenview meeting. There were 342 posters and 59 videos entered in the contest from surrounding school districts. To enter the contest, students were required to choose one or more of the Six Pillars of Character Counts! as the theme of their creative endeavor. The pillars are trustworthiness, responsibility, respect, caring, fairness, and citizenship.

Lynn Stiefel of the Village of Glenview staff spearheaded the video competition and Barbara Littlefield of the Glenview Public Library coordinated the poster competition. The winning students received prize awards courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Glenview-Northbrook.

During the meeting, Character Counts! Counts! Co-Chair and Maple Principal, Dr. Nate Carter was recognized for his commitment to the Character Counts! committee, and his upcoming retirement in June 2020. Willowbrook School Principal Dr. Scott Carlson is also a new Co-Chair for Character Counts! this year, and thanked Dr. Carter for his dedication, enthusiasm, and great leadership on the committee.  The two leaders then congratulated the winning entrants and presented them with their awards, with Wescott Principal Dr. Chris Brown.

Treasurer and Superintendent of District 30 Schools, Dr. Brian Wegley was also present and recognized for his many years of commitment and leadership on the Character Counts! committee. Other District 30 Character Counts! committee members include Maple Assistant Principal Betty Holzkopf, Board of Education member Zivit Blonder, Assistant to District 30's Superintendent, Michele Pollina, and Maple School Principal's Secretary, Nancy Lifshitz.

The poster winner was Willowbrook School third-grader Sophie Feng.

Fifth and Sixth-Grade Video Winners included the following students:
1. Wescott Schools' Atticus Kim and Zachary Karchmar
2. Willowbrook Schools' Adriana Given, Claire Booker, and Julia Booker
3. Willowbrook Schools' Naomi Chang
4. Maple Schools' Marisa Chi and Josiah Cho
