It’s not too early to start thinking about your summer plans! We would love to have your kids join us for our wonderful summer school program held at Willowbrook School from June 11 to July 12 (with no school on July 4 or 5).

Leon Logothetis from "The Kindness Diaries" (Netflix) is Coming to Wescott on January 31

Wescott families are invited to see Leon Logothetis, the nationally-televised humanitarian, cause adventurer and author of The Kindness Diaries Thursday, January 31. He is a perfect match for Wescott’s theme for the 2018-2019 school year “#ChooseKind.” Leon, who has a unique gift of creating life-changing moments in students’ lives through his personal story, will deliver our theme's message and instill in all of us a greater sense of self and purpose rooted in kindness.

Students will hear from Leon during the school day and for the parents, the PTO will hold a special evening speaking engagement at 7:00 p.m.

January 21 is a School Holiday

There is no school on Monday, January 21, due to the Martin Luther King holiday.

The Wescott School PTO will be hosting the annual Dinner at Elly's Pancake House at 5:30 p.m., Monday, January 21. Set menus will feature the most popular items, and proceeds will go the PTO, which will be used to purchase new playground equipment. Elementary School Concert Takes Place on January 28

Wescott and Willowbrook School students will participate in the annual Elementary Winter Concert at 7:00 p.m., on Monday, January 28 at Maple School.

Wescott's PTO is Taking Class Party Reservations for Spring Madness Fundraiser!

The PTO annually hosts a Wescott Madness Fundraiser, which is a community event where party/entertainment options are offered for kids and adults to attend throughout the spring. All profits go to Wescott School. This year's goal is to purchase new playground equipment.

Wescott School's PTO is looking for volunteers to join the Nominating Committee, which will help seek out potential candidates for next year’s open board positions. District 30's Preschool Registration is January 30

The District 30 Early Childhood Program is held at Willowbrook School. Registration for new students will be held on Wednesday, January 30 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

This integrated early childhood program is designed to support children’s social, language, cognitive/pre-academic, and motor development. The curriculum is aligned with readiness skills required for District 30 kindergarten program. Staffing includes a certified early childhood teacher and 2 program assistants. There is support from a speech-language pathologist, school psychologist, occupational and physical therapist.

Each classroom serves up to 16 students, including children with special needs and same-age peers. Research has shown that shared learning experiences have positive effects for both children with and without special needs. The program is based on best practices in early childhood education and aligned to the Illinois Early Childhood Learning Standards.


This 5-day per week program follows the District 30 school calendar. Our 3-year-old students attend the morning class from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m. Our 4-year-old students attend the afternoon class from 12:40 to 3:10 p.m.

Tuition for the 2019-20 school year is $3,800 ($400 deposit due at registration). Registration for new students will be held on Wednesday, January 30 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Kindergarten Registration Scheduled for February 7
 
Parents and caregivers of all incoming District 30 kindergarten students are invited to register at Willowbrook School on Thursday, February 7 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. 

In order to enroll for the fall, 2019-20 session, a child must be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2019. An official birth certificate must be presented at the time of registration. Hospital or baptismal certificates cannot be accepted. Copies of an official birth certificate can be obtained at the County Clerk's office in the county where your child was born. In Cook County, the certificate can be obtained from the County Clerk's Office, 188 North Clark, Chicago, Illinois 60602; or the Skokie Courthouse at 5600 Old Orchard Road in Skokie, Room 149, Ph. 847-470-7233.

Third Grade Show Set for February 13

This year's third grade show is called "The Kindness Diaries," which aligns with this year's school theme, "Choose Kind." It will take place for a parent audience at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for the students, on Wednesday, February 13.

PROJECT LEAD THE WAY Writing Contest Underway/
Submission Date is February 1, 2019

The National Academy of Science is holding a writing contest open to elementary through high school
students.

The EngineerGirl writing contest is asking students to submit works of creative fiction in which the main character is a female who uses engineering skills to solve a problem.

The deadline to submit a story is Feb. 1, 2019, at 11:59 PM. Submit stories via the online submission form at the website below.

The contest is open to individual girls and boys in the following three competition categories:
1. Elementary school students (grades 3-5)
2. Middle school students (grades 6-8)
3. High school students (grades 9-12)

Save the Date! The 19th Annual Lew Blond 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Run will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019
 

The 19th Annual Lew Blond Memorial 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Run will be held at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Maple School. It is an esteemed CARA Circuit Race and is USATF certified. The event is among the top running events in the north suburban area.  For 18 years, this fundraiser has been helping to support research for Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS), in memory of Lew Blond, a Maple School teacher who passed away from this disease in February 2000. Proceeds benefit ALS research through the Les Turner ALS Foundation, and support scholarships for prospective teachers at the Glenbrook High Schools and special District 30 projects. The 2018 race drew over 1,000 participants and volunteers. Total funds raised over 18 years exceeds $450,000. For more information, go to lewblondrun.org
