District 30's Board Gives Go Ahead for Maple Design On July 13

District 30's Board of Education came to a consensus on giving the go ahead on the plans that have emerged from the design development phase of work for the new Maple School! In the Fall of 2016, the District 30 Board of Education entered into an inclusive process that generated District 30’s Master Facility Plan.

The process included input from all stakeholders: *Community Members *Parents *Students *Staff *Administration *Board of Education Leadership for this process was provided by our Board, Administrative Team, a Steering Committee (board members, administrators, teachers, parents, and community members), and a 34-member Citizens’ Task Force (District 30 parents, local business and real-estate leaders, village representatives, community members, building principals, and a teacher from each building).

The wealth of information generated in the Master Facility Planning process was utilized to create a preliminary design of a new Maple School. A leadership team convened that began work with ARCON and Nicholas & Associates two days after the referendum. Efforts have incorporated input from teachers, the Northbrook Police and Fire Departments, a traffic consultant, and engineers from the Village of Northbrook.

Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegely stated, "Our work has also included meetings with District 225 and Glenbrook North High School. Our collective work has generated designs for the new Maple School, which will be constructed on the field that is adjacent to the current Maple School. These designs will continue to evolve, and you can see the current design and how plans develop at our facilities website http://www.d30facilities.org/

"Architects have entered the mechanical drawing phase that will position us for bidding the work in the winter. Ground breaking will occur by April, and the goal remains to occupy the new Maple School in the fall of 2019. District 30’s bond sale for this project went extremely well due to our AAA bond rating and the low-interest rates at the time of sale. The actual cost to our taxpayers will not be included in our taxes until the fall of 2018, and it will be lower than advertised during the referendum. The actual cost will be $45.63 per thousand dollars paid in taxes as opposed to the advertised impact of $47.55."

Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley's report on the Board of Education Budget Hearing and business meeting, which was held on September 13

Staffing Changes Approved

The Board officially hired Julie Molay as a fourth-grade teacher at Wescott and Nicole Schramm as our District Office Accounting Coordinator. We welcome them to our family.

The Board also accepted the resignations of Instructional Assistants Kelsey Davis and Michelle Miller along with Lucy Kloss as of September 22, and Joe Warnstedt as of September 29. We thank all of these individuals for their service and wish them well in their future endeavors.

District 30 Budget Approved

The board held our annually required budget hearing and officially approved our 2017-2018 District 30 budget.

This year’s operating budget includes $23,980,306 revenues and $24,384,544 in expenditures, which represents a deficit operating budget of $404,238. For the next few years, our administrative team will generate thoughtful cost-saving measures to maintain our planned, controlled deficit budget. I look forward to meeting with faculty from each building to review our current budget and to share information on the new Evidence-Based Funding Model for the State of Illinois.

August 23, 2017

Dear District 30 Parents and Community:

The 2017-2018 school year promises to be an incredible year! On behalf of the entire District 30 Board of Education and staff, I extend a warm welcome to all within our District 30 Family. District 30 exists to create a community that craves learning, fosters resiliency, and cares deeply for every child. I have lived in District 30 for over a decade.

As I enter my third year serving as the Superintendent of District 30, I continue to cherish my opportunities to connect with and support our parents, students, and staff. I consider it a privilege to serve this district and our communities. We have an invested Board of Education, talented administrators and staff, and outstanding students.

I applaud our Board of Education for collaboratively setting goals that maintain focus on instructional practices and facilities that support child-centered learning and intellectual growth within our classrooms. There continues to be an emphasis on strengthening our children’s character through the Character Counts! organization, with its supportive programs and motivational contests. Our strategic work this year will also include exploring options for our food service through a bidding process. A parent survey related to food service will be sent out in the near future.

Our teachers have been busy throughout the summer preparing for the new school year, and we continue to make significant progress on the new Maple School. Our inclusive work has generated designs for the new school, which will be constructed on the field that is adjacent to the current Maple School. These plans will continue to evolve, and you can follow our progress on our facilities website: http://d30facilities.org. Ground breaking will occur this spring, and the goal remains to occupy the new Maple School in the fall of 2019.

We remain committed to providing the best possible educational experience for all students attending Maple, Wescott, and Willowbrook Schools. I invite each of you to remain connected and involved in your child’s education and to follow my Superintendent's Blog, follow me on Twitter, and to utilize D30's social media presence. Together we can look forward to seeing our children achieve, succeed, and grow!
