Start Location - Maple School | 2370 Shermer Road | Northbrook, IL

 

Date: Saturday, May 19, 2018
Rain or Shine

Start Time: 8:00 am (5K) / 9:00 am (1 mile race for kids)

Race Course: USATF Certified/CARA Certified Race (IL-10116-JW) / Part of The CARA Runners Choice CircuitBicycles, roller skates/blades, skateboards and dogs are not permitted on the course. Strollers and Baby Joggers will be permitted in the One Mile Fun Run only, and should start from the back of the race field."

Split times: Digital clocks at mile 1, mile 2 and the finish line. Split times at miles 1 and 2 only. Water will be available at the start, midway through the race and at the finish line. First Aid station, gear check and post-race refreshments available on site.

Directions: The best option for easy out access is the Highland Baking parking lot, 2301 Shermer Road, which is on the east side of Shermer Road and directly across the street from the event. Limited parking is also available in the Glenbrook North High School south parking lot, located at 2300 Shermer Road. Enter and exit on Shermer Road, as Sherman Drive entrances will be closed for the race.

Registration: All pre-registered participants receive a t-shirt. Dri-fit T-shirts are guaranteed for those who register by April 25, 2018. T-shirts will be available while supplies last.

Costs: Before April 25th, Adult $32 (CARA member $27) / Youth $22 (CARA Youth $17)
After April 25th, Adult $35 (CARA member $30) / Youth $25 (CARA Youth $20)

** No refunds for race registrations.

Packet Pickup: Packet pickup is on Friday, May 18, 2018, from 4:00pm to 6:30pm
and on race day, Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 6:45am to 7:45am. Race day registration will be offered during packet-pickup and on race day until 7:45am.

Awards

Overall male and female 5K winners and the top three men and women in each category of 9 & under, 10-11, 12-14, and 5 year age groups from 15-19 to 65 & over will receive awards. One mile run awards for children 6 & under, 7-9, 10-11 and 12-14.

Unclaimed awards will not be mailed.

18th Annual Lew Blond Run is May 19!

The 18th Annual Lew Blond Memorial 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Run (for kids) takes place at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19 at Maple School.  the children's race takes place around 9:00 a.m. As the largest District 30 fundraiser, proceeds from this event are donated to the Les Turner ALS Foundation to help research Lou Gehrig's Disease.  Funds are also allocated to provide scholarships to graduating seniors at Glenbrook North and South High Schools and are used for special projects at the schools.

Each year, over 1,000 participants join the race to either run, walk, cheer on their friends or family members, and to enjoy the fellowship of others in the community.

The planning for this event is a year-long process, undertaken by the Lew Blond Executive Committee. Executive Director Dr. Nate Carter and Director Michele Rosen are looking for volunteers to help between May 17 until the day of the race, May 19.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

•Prepare race materials on Thursday, May 17, from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Maple

•Distribute bibs and t-shirts to runners on Friday, May 18, from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Maple

•Prepare food on Saturday, May 19, from 6:00 am.m to 7:45 a.m.

•Handle day of race registration on Saturday, May 19, from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.

•Distribute bibs and t-shirts to runners on race day, Saturday, May 19, from 6:45 a.m.to 7:50 a.m.

•Marshall a corner during the run on Saturday, May 19, 7:30 a.m. to approximately 9:30 a.m.

The Lew Blond Run Executive Committee meets at 5:00 p.m.,  Wednesday, March 14 in Maple School's library media center. Those individuals who want to help make this year's race success by volunteering, are welcome to come to the meeting!
