Presentation on Understanding Social Media Took Place February 10

On Monday, February 10, Maple students participated in a yearly presentation focused on Understanding Social Media. The presentation and subsequent discussion was led by Glenview Police Detectives, Jamie Medina and Randy Herndon. Detective Medina and Herndon currently serve on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Cook County. They are experts in the field of social media and we look forward to their presentation.

Maple School staff continuously works in collaboration with local support services to keep students safe when using social media devices and platforms. We hope that our students increased their awareness of the dangers that social media presents and embrace strategies for safe and appropriate use in these areas.

Talking points during the presentation included:

• Understanding social media• Understanding a digital footprint• School/home uses and misuses• Fostering responsible use of social media• Cyberbullying, sexting, and reporting• Safety tips for students
