Maple Musical "Annie Jr." Rehearsals are Underway!

Twenty-three Maple School student-cast members have been studiously rehearsing for the upcoming musical "Annie Jr.", which will take place at 7:00 p.m., on March 14 and 15 at Maple. There will also be two student performances on March 13, one for the elementary students and one for the Maple students.

Putting together a school musical begins long before the performance. Back in December 2018, producer Debbie Hickey, director Jeri Hart, and musical director Aaron Kaplan began the planning and scheduling process. There was a parent meeting, auditions, and rehearsals began in mid-December. In addition, there is the backstage crew, who are engaged in creating scenery, props, and signs with scenery director Darlene Orzechowski.

Ms. Hickey said that all of the kids did a wonderful job during auditions and that the solos and features have been decided throughout the rehearsal process.

Tickets for Maple School's Spring Musical "Annie" will be sold on Thursday, February 28 and Friday, March 1, from 4:00 - 5:30 pm near the East Gym.

If you are unable to purchase tickets in person, please email Debbie Hickey at dhickey@district30.org. Tickets for assigned floor seats cost $10, and bleacher seats for students/open seating cost $5 each.

When requesting seats, please include the date of the show you want to attend. Checks should be made out to Maple School and sent to Debbie Hickey's attention.

Maple School's Career Day will be held for eighth grade students on Friday, March 1, to help them learn about the connection between what they are learning in their classroom and real life careers/professions.

Mock interviews with volunteer professionals will take place in the morning. The kids will attend presentations by a variety of professionals in the afternoon. These guests will be discussing personal stories about their career paths in an interactive, hands on approach; and will share information about their current careers/professions.

At the Board of Education meeting, held on January 10, Dr. Carter reported that the teachers were collectively very impressed, amazed and extremely grateful to have a new school that will strongly support 21st-century learning. He thanked Superintendent Dr. Wegley and the Board for their ongoing support.

He added that "The facility truly will match today's instruction. There will be so much natural light, and it is a fun space too. I can't wait for the kids to experience their first walk into the building on September 3!"
