From Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley: A Letter to All Parents and Guardians on District's Master Facility Plan

Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Brian Wegley

9/2/2016

Dear District 30 Parents and Guardians,

District 30 is completing our second week of school, and it is wonderful to have the energy of our students back in our schools!

I am writing this email to personally share a little information about an important initiative being undertaken within District 30. After meaningful input and reflection, District 30 updated its Strategic Plan last year, which fueled the creation of two important Board Goals:

Goal 1: Increase child-centered instruction within rigorous and coherent educational programs.

Goal 2: Ensure District 30 facilities possess the capacity to support our evolving and emerging programs and contribute to optimal educational experiences.

The first goal works to build upon our educational vision, while our second goal strives to create and realize the facility vision that aligns with our educational vision.

District 30’s Board of Education has entered into an inclusive process that is respectful to our stakeholders and community, and involves them in the process of updating our district’s facility vision. The first semester of the 2016-2017 school year will be devoted to this important work, which was kicked off this week.

This week’s work with community members, parents, staff, and students has generated a wealth of educational insights about our facilities that will compliment the full physical assessment of our facilities that was completed last year.

Findings will be utilized by a Steering Committee which will help update our Master Facility Plan. Once approved by the Board of Education, this plan, along with options for accomplishing the plan, will be shared with the Citizens’ Task Force. This group will narrow options, gather input from our community, and present our Board of Education with the facility option they recommend.

As always, we value and appreciate your partnership and commitment to the students we serve in District 30. Thank you in advance for staying engaged, including your participation in future community opinion surveys the district will be conducting in late-October or early-November.

You can learn more about the needs driving this important work in my most recent blog: Board Goals and Master Facility Plan and at our District 30 facility website (http://facilities.district30.org/).

As our work progresses, please do not hesitate to reach out to me with your insights or questions.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Brian
