D30 Phased Operations Info & Survey

D30 Phased Operations Info & Survey

Parent Survey Responses due June 17.

Dear District 30 Family,

I hope you are enjoying some of the beautiful weather we have been experiencing over the last few days! Viewing Wescott and Willowbrook’s closing ceremonies and Maple’s graduation, along with our drive-through celebrations this week, was energizing. Thank you to everyone who participated and made these events possible! I know that these events were emotional for many of us as they reflected the care and connection we all have across District 30. Thank you for a fantastic year of partnership!

As I enjoyed watching two of my District 30 neighborhood girls dancing in the rain on Tuesday with their family, I was reminded of our children’s gifts. I hope that you and your families relish the time to connect and find joy throughout the summer!

Focus Turns to the Fall

As I mentioned last week, our focus now turns to the fall. Preparation and planning will be essential as we look towards the “reopening of schools” next year.

Although we still await guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, the administrative team’s planning for the fall began in early May, and a strategic plan has been developed to complete District 30’s Phased Operations Plan that aligns with the Governor’s Restore Illinois Plan. We have a good understanding of our plans for Phases 1, 2, 3, and 5. Collaborative administrative and staff committees started meeting on May 27, to develop strategies for Educational Programming and Operations that align with CDC guidelines.

We have also assembled a D30 Phased Operations Task Force that will convene on June 25, to review options we have generated for Educational Programming and Operations for Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan. Please note the survey request below, and watch for a survey that we are tentatively planning for the week of June 29 that will further inform our efforts. We aim to have a draft plan before the Board of Education on July 16.

The overarching goal of our efforts is to return to in-person learning to the degree possible, practical, and permissible when the schools reopen in the 2020-21 school year (per health guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and other authorities).

A few key reminders:

  • Please view my Parent Phased Operations Video that will provide valuable information about our planning efforts that will assist you with the vital survey below.
  • To help with our planning, please complete this District 30 Phased Operations Parent Considerations Survey by Wednesday, June 17, 2020. (Please see my email for the survey link)
  • As we plan for the fall, we will provide you with regular updates, and our Parent Phased Operations FAQ. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
  • Here are a few resources to keep students engaged this summer:
    • We remain in contact with the Northbrook and Glenview Libraries and Park Districts. They are developing virtual programming and may implement small-group activities this summer if guidelines allow for it. Access information about these opportunities through this Northfield Township Summer Engagement Options link.
    • Feel free to use these Enhancement Ideas for student options during the summer.
  • We are learning a great deal about how to coexist with COVID-19 without a vaccine. Please remain informed and responsible to our entire community. Here are a couple of resources that you may find helpful:

Again, thank you all for partnering with us through these challenging times. Once again, you have reinforced how lucky we are to serve this community! We wish you a wonderful summer!

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
Superintendent
