D30 Family 5/15 Update

D30 Family 5/15 Update

Dear District 30 Family,

I hope you are all continuing to do well! In addition to touching base with the members of our family, this email is to share this week’s update from our Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task ForcePlease note the good news of our region’s decline in COVID-19 cases and the positivity rate. In addition, the Glenview and Northbrook Park District plans for opening tennis and pickleball courts are included. Enjoy the pushup challenge highlighted between Glenview and Northbrook! I am continually thankful for the coordination and collaboration between our villages and leaders to help us navigate our current situation.

I also continue to be reminded of our community's quality and care, as we progress through this challenging time. One highlight was from our student Noah who lifted our spirits with his rendition of What a Wonderful World! My neighborhood enjoyed a visit from the Fire Department this week to celebrate my five-year-old neighbor’s birthday. The Glenview and Northbrook Fire Departments continue to provide these moments of joy, and donate the modest fee to the Northfield Township Food Pantry! District 30 also received a Spartan Storytime resource coordinated by caring GBN students. This resource has been added to our Enhancement page, and is worth checking out!

A few key reminders:

  • We continue to update our plans regarding how to best proceed educationally through the year:
    • Decisions that have been made:
      • Review a comprehensive list of decisions.
      • We will honor our fifth-grade and eighth-grade students with remote ceremonies that will be available for viewing on Monday, June 8. We look forward to celebrating with our teachers, students, and families!
        • Eighth-grade students and parents will receive an informational email from Dr. Carter and Mrs. Holzkopf today. Maple’s graduation will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8.
        • Elementary virtual closing ceremony links will be emailed to families around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8.
      • With District 30’s Summer School canceled, we remain in contact with the Northbrook and Glenview Libraries and Park Districts. They are developing virtual programming and may implement small-group activities this summer if guidelines allow for it. Access information about these opportunities through this Northfield Township Summer Engagement Options link.
      • An e-Learning Survey was shared on Thursday, May 14, to gain input on our inaugural e-Learning effort. Thank you for providing your insights. We value your feedback as we consider further evolution of e-Learning, should it be needed in the fall and/or for future snow days.
    • Other issues for future consideration:
      • A pickup schedule for student materials and iPad/library book end-of-the-year drop-off.
  • Keep checking our Parent School Closure and e-Learning FAQ. We will keep it updated and will add answers to important questions that arise, as we all navigate our new, temporary normal.

Our primary goal is to maintain connections with our students in a concerted effort to continue a sense of normalcy. I am constantly reflecting on all that they are processing right now with us. Please let your children know how proud we are of how they are remaining engaged and positive right now. Your child is not alone if he or she struggles at some point through this difficult time. Know that we continue to be here to provide any needed support to you and your family. We wish you a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
Superintendent
