D30 Family 4/24 Weekly Update

D30 Family 4/24 Weekly Update

Dear District 30 Family,

I hope that you are all continuing to do well! In addition to touching base with the members of our family, this email is to share this week’s update from our Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force.  Please note that the Governor’s Stay-At-Home Order has been extended until May 30 and that masks are now required in public when physical distancing can’t be maintained. I continue to be thankful for the coordination and collaboration between our villages and leaders to help us navigate our current situation.

We had a great week of learning in District 30. Please take a few minutes to view my video message of this week’s update.

A few key reminders:

  • Last Friday, Governor Pritzker announced that school buildings would remain closed in Illinois through the remainder of the 2019-2020 School Year. We continue to update our plans regarding how to best proceed educationally through the year:
  • Decisions that have been made:
    • Review a comprehensive list of decisions.
    • We will continue e-Learning from Tuesday, April 28 through Monday, June 8, which will be our last day with students this school year.
    • The e-Learning Calendar has been finalized and is available on the District 30 Google Calendar.
    • Monday, April 27, will be a Global Learning Lesson that includes a collaborative effort between our administrative team and PTOs to generate meaningful messages of gratitude for Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4 through May 8). We look forward to hearing from our students and families.
    • Other than incoming sixth-grade students, placements from the 2019-20 school year will be maintained and evaluated in the fall. Placements for students transitioning from fifth to sixth-grade are being completed with modified placement matrices, and Navigate placement notifications will be sent out by July 1.
    • Last Trimester Report Card Modifications
      • Elementary students will receive a narrative summary. No grades will be issued during this period of Remote Learning.
      • Middle School students will receive a Pass or Incomplete for each class.
      • The expectation for all students is to remain engaged during remote learning; teachers will stay in touch with families, and extenuating circumstances will be considered.
    • Refunds Identified
      • By the end of June, District 30 will provide refunds for bus fees, before and after-school care fees (from March 16 through the end of the school year), and eighth-grade graduation party fees).
      • The Northbrook Park District has communicated directly with Adventure Campus families and will provide refunds (from March 16 through the end of the school year).
      • Quest Management Food Services will maintain funds for all returning students. For graduating 8th graders, funds will be rolled over to GBN, GBS, and Loyola accounts by Quest. If your student is not returning to the district or you have further questions, please email Aracely Rojas at arojas@questfms.com.
  • Other issues for future consideration:
    • A pickup schedule for student materials and iPad/library book end-of-the-year drop-off
    • Plans to honor our fifth-grade and eighth-grade students with remote options for these and other recognition events and celebrations
    • Summer School that may be modified or canceled for this year
  • Keep checking our Parent School Closure and e-Learning FAQ - We will keep it updated and will add answers to important questions that arise, as we all navigate our new, temporary normal

In a concerted effort to continue a sense of normalcy, our primary goal is to maintain connections with our students. I am proud of the high levels of student engagement, as we work to move our students forward in a thoughtful manner. As we continue to navigate this new learning initiative that has been forced upon us, we are collectively getting a lot right. Please continue to communicate with us, as we genuinely value our relationships. We will get through this together!

Warmly,

Dr. Brian K. Wegley
Superintendent
