Health Update on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) - April 3

Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 continues to partner with village leaders and agencies to work together on and respond to the evolving COVID-19 situation. This communication is from our task force. Thank you for your continued partnership and support, and thank you for helping our youth honor the physical distancing expectations. Please note the NorthShore University HealthSystem guidance and plea to continue honoring stay-at-home orders and physical distancing; in our communities, we have seen their success in slowing the spread of COVID-19! I continue to be inspired by all the care being shown by our community. With Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker’s order to extend the statewide disaster declaration, stay-at-home orders, and school closures through the month of April, the Glenview/Northbrook COVID-19 Task Force has been working to ensure compliance with those orders and support our community.

A Note on Language

You will see that we now use the term “physical distancing” rather than “social distancing” in our messages. We are being very deliberate in that use, because we know how important it is for our emotional well being to maintain social connections from a safe physical distance at this time. 

Expanded Park District Closures

As the weather warms, we are receiving messages from concerned patrons regarding the volume of group gatherings in our parks and public spaces. In accordance with Governor Pritzker’s Stay at Home Order 2020-18, Glenview and Northbrook Park Districts have closed access to many park amenities, in addition to facilities.

The Glenview and Northbrook Park Districts are working cooperatively with Village and Police authorities, who are ready to assist with enforcement by dispersing people who do not follow the Governor’s order. Check your park district website for more specific details on closures and restrictions. 

We Are All In

All of the agencies that are part of the Glenview / Northbrook Coronavirus Response effort strongly support strict enforcement of the Governor’s stay-at-home orders and physical distancing; in our communities, we have seen their success in slowing the spread of COVID-19 (see the update below from Northshore University Healthcare).

All of our buildings are closed; check our individual websites to learn how to access services. Playgrounds in our communities remain closed; please do not allow your yard or home to become an alternate site for gatherings. 

Update From NorthShore University HealthSystem

NorthShore University HealthSystem continues to prepare its staff, facilities, and functions for an increase in COVID-19 cases, which have been climbing steadily in the last week. Health hotline and e-visit calls have grown and NorthShore has more than doubled the amount of testing in that time.

Jesse Peterson Hall, president of Glenbrook Hospital, says that he is encouraged that the stay-at-home orders and guidance to use the health hotline and e-visits through NorthShore Connect have been helpful in keeping Northshore facilities from becoming overloaded. 

He said that the support from the community has been tremendous and the healthcare workers are so grateful. NorthShore continues to accept financial, critical supply and other donations. Visit their website for information.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT COVID-19 

Regular and diligent hand hygiene before and after:  

  • Touching your face, 
  • Blowing your nose, 
  • Coughing or sneezing, 
  • Going to the bathroom, and 
  • Eating or preparing food. 

Vigilant physical distancing:

  • Maintain a distance of 6 feet from each other whenever possible
  • Limit the number of individuals involved in in-person conversations. 

Cough or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve. 
Stay home if you are sick. 

 

IF YOU ARE SICK

If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19, do not visit your doctor or the hospital until instructed to do so. You can get help either by calling the community health hotline at 847-432-5849 or scheduling an E-Visit at northshoreconnect.org or on the Northshore Connect mobile app. After you log in, click the COVID-19 E-visit button. Based on your symptoms, you will be told if you need to be tested and will be given instructions on where to go for your test. 

Resources To Support Our Citizens & Businesses

In these challenging times, our agencies are working to provide and promote supports for those who are struggling: 

  • Financial Assistance: If you live in Northfield Township and need assistance with rent, food or other financial strains, directly contact the township office at 847-724-8300. Social workers and other support professionals should not reach out on behalf of others, but should encourage citizens to call directly. (Remember, the Food Pantry is accepting donations so they are able to provide support to those in need.) 
     
  • Mental Health Support

    • Text-A-Tip: Students in our community have safe, secure and anonymous 24/7 access to trained, professional counselors provided by LEAD (Leading Efforts Against Drugs). Students who have concerns about themselves or a friend can text a code to (844) 823-5323 and receive an immediate text response. The codes are specific to schools; however, any student from any school can use any code: 

      • District 27: Wildcat
      • District 28: NBJH
      • District 30: NBHelp
      • District 31: Field
      • District 34: ATHELP or SPHELP
      • District 225: GBN Help and GBS Help (respectively)
