Over 100 Pumpkins Recycled at Maple School on November 4

In an effort to continue to help reduce landfill waste, District 30’s Environmental Awareness Committee (EAC) hosted the third annual pumpkin recycling/compost event on November 4.

When the activity ended, the recycling container was overflowing, and over 100 pumpkins were collected. All pumpkins will be picked up by Waste Management @wastemanagement, transported to its compost facility, and turned into dirt and bags of that dirt are sold at local stores, according to District 30's Waste Management representative Laura Pall.

Thank you to everyone who donated their pumpkins and to EAC representatives who helped residents throughout the morning: Tracey Becker, Catherine Caporusso Hartman, Anjali Nanjia, and Theresa Blackburn, secretary to Assistant Superintendent and EAC Chair, Dr. Melissa Hirsch.

The EAC is also grateful for the Maple’s Service Learning Club members with Jillian Rathge, for making such colorful and creative posters to promote the pumpkin recycling/compost event.
