District Updates, Maple School Tours & "Open For Learning" Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

District 30 Hosts First Tour of New Maple with Board of Education

On August 8, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Brian Wegley welcomed the Board of Education and former Board members to a tour of the now complete bright-and-shining new Maple School. Attendees were able to traverse all three floors of the school, including a glimpse at the new parking lot, which was just blacktopped this week. A Board of Education meeting took place after the tour. 

Dr. Wegley expressed gratitude to everyone who helped make the dream of the new building come true, and pride, as he described the state-of-the-art, flexible, innovative, school that boasts windows galore and natural light. He thanked the many partners who were instrumental in the building of the new Maple. They included supportive community members, staff, ARCON Architects, Nicholas & Associates Construction, Wintrust Bank, District 225, La Salceda del Norte, village entities, and more. He enthusiastically added that construction remained on schedule and within budget for the past 16 months.

During the public comment portion of the Board of Education meeting, former Board of Education member Chuck Gitles thanked Dr. Wegley and the Board and District 30 for building the community such an innovative, flexible school which is a shining star in the community!

District 30 invites the community to view the new Maple School during two public tours which will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 29, and from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Saturday, September 7.

New Teacher Orientation Set for August 19-21
 
New teachers will participate in orientation workshops from Monday, August 19-Wednesday, August 21 from 8:30 a.m.:3:30 p.m. with Learning Enhancement Coordinator Nadine Lee. On Tuesday, August 20, at 10:30 a.m., the new teachers will take a bus tour through the villages of Northbrook and Glenview, so they can become more familiar with the towns where they are employed.
 
District 30 faculty will participate in Teacher Institute Days from August 27-August 29 at Maple School.
 

New Maple Community Tours Set for August 29 and September 7

District 30 invites our community to view the new Maple School this fall to share this new community asset. We are planning on two public tours for the new Maple School at 6:00 p.m on Thursday, August 29, 2019, and from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., on Saturday, September 7, 2019. 

"We will begin sharing these opportunities publicly and look forward to showing off the new Maple School!" stated Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Brian Wegley.

District 30's First Day(s) of School

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3. The new Maple School Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony is titled "Open for Learning," and will take place at 8:35 a.m. The school day will begin at 8:35 a.m. and end at 3:35 p.m. Wescott and Willowbrook Schools begin school at 8:40 a.m. and school ends at 3:10 p.m. The first day of preschool and kindergarten at Willowbrook School will begin at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, September 4.

School Curriculum Night Schedules
 

Wescott and Willowbrook will host their annual Curriculum Night Open House from 7:00-8:30 p.m., Thursday, September 5. Please note that children do not attend this event.

Maple School's Curriculum Night will take place at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12. All parents should report to their child's Block A classroom to begin the evening.

In addition, a high school placement information meeting for eighth-grade parents will precede Curriculum Night and is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, September 12 in the Cafetorium. All eighth-graders are encouraged to attend.
 
Board of Education Meets in Early Fall on September 19, October 3 and 24
