District 30 News Briefs: Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley's January 10 Board of Education Meeting Update

Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley's January 10 Board of Education Meeting Update

Furniture For Grades 3 through 5 Approved

The Board approved the purchase of furniture for grades 3 through 5 and thanked our staff for their efforts that will benefit our students for years to come.

Aligning our facilities vision with our educational vision has been a part of our strategic plan since 2016. This goal led to the construction of the new Maple School. It also illuminated the need to replace the furniture across the district. Generating a district vision for grades 3 through 5 furniture was one of our action plans this year.

A systemic process that began with research of flexible furniture led to piloted classrooms of furniture supplied by our PTO fundraising efforts at Wescott and then Willowbrook. This year’s efforts led by Mr. Kohl, Dr. Brown, and Dr. Carlson have included collaborative work and input from many of our teachers.

These efforts resulted in a powerful district-wide vision for flexible classrooms that align with our instructional strategies. The Board approved the purchase of furniture for grades 3 through 5 and thanked our staff for their efforts that will benefit our students for years to come. Mrs. Sedlak and Mr. Karchmar reflected on the progress that has been made with our outstanding kindergarten program and thanked our terrific District 30 team. Well done!

Summer of 2019 Glenview and Northbrook Park District Offerings for District 30 Students

To complete the new Maple School’s campus, the summer of 2019 will run from the end of May through September 3. Our extended summer generates the need for supplementary childcare support for our parents. I shared additional Glenview Park District Offerings and Northbrook Park District Offerings. Also, District 30’s Summer School will run from June 11 through July 12.

The Board joined me in sharing our sincere appreciation for the partnership with our Park Districts! I also thanked Building Principals for helping to share this valuable information with our parents.

"Thank you for helping us generate the gift of hope for the future. We live in extraordinary, but challenging times. Keeping a focus on developing independent, good people who can achieve in this demanding world remains a powerful compass for my life, District 30, and our community.

I am eternally optimistic about the future because I know that our students will continue to grow into caring and capable people who will multiply our efforts for good." -Dr. Brian K. Wegley
