Character Counts! Annual Kids Care Food Drive Benefits Northfield Township Food Pantry

October 18-29, 2021

It's Time to Donate Food Items for the Northfield Township Food Pantry!

The annual Kids Care Food Drive to support the Northfield Township Food Pantry is underway until October 29! This food drive is being organized by the Character Counts! in Glenview Committee and parent volunteers from Glenview District 34, Northbrook/Glenview District 30, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Residents can drop off food items inside the vestibules at Maple, Wescott, and Willowbrook Schools through Friday, October 29.

Some of the most important items that are difficult to stock in sufficient numbers are canned proteins such as tuna, chicken, salmon, beef stew, pasta with meat i.e. SpaghettiOs, and beans; soup; rice and pasta mixes and shelf-stable potatoes. Thank you for your support of over 950 families who rely on the Northfield Township Food Pantry to supplement their diets.

Dr. Carlson and Mr. Kurtz shared, "Thank you for supporting the annual Kids Care Food Drive to support the Northfield Township Food Pantry. We have one more week to go! A running total of food items collected is available on the District 34 website. Our intent is to get children thinking community-wide rather than by individual schools. We have set a community-wide goal of collecting 10,000 food items over these two weeks."

For more information, contact Sam Kurtz at 847-400-8900, or Dr. Scott Carlson at 847-498-1090.

2019 Kids Care Food Drive Participants Donate Over 29,000 Food Items to Northfield Township Food Pantry

The annual Character Counts! Week and the Kids Care Food Drive took place on October 21-25, 2019. District 30, District 34, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help School (OLPH) students collected over 29,000 food items, which were donated to Northfield Township Food Pantry. The pantry serves over 700 needy families in this area year round.

"The Kids Care Food Drive comes along at the perfect time every year. Food supplies dwindle during the summer and early fall, and this is one of our largest food drives. It fills our shelves and provides a tremendous amount of food for our neighbors in need," said Jill Brickman, supervisor of Northfield Township Food Pantry in Glenview.  https://twp.northfield.il.us/pantry/ or ccglenview.org

Willowbrook and Wescott School students took a break from counting collected food items to pose with Principal Dr. Scott Carlson and Principal Dr. Chris Brown during the 2019 food drive.
